This Privacy Policy explains how the Swippet mobile application (“the App”), developed and operated by Juho Riihijärvi (“we,” “us,” “our”), handles your information. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

The short version

Swippet processes everything on your device. Your photos, videos, sorting decisions, and statistics never leave your phone. We do not operate any servers that collect or store your data. There are no analytics SDKs, no advertising frameworks, no tracking pixels, and no third-party dependencies of any kind. The only network communication occurs through Apple’s own built-in services (App Store for purchases and reverse geocoding for location names), which are governed by Apple’s own Privacy Policy.

1. Photo Library Access

Swippet requests permission to access your photo library using Apple’s PhotoKit framework. This is required for the App’s core functionality: displaying your photos and videos so you can sort them. The App reads your media in place and does not copy, upload, or transmit your photos or videos to any server.

What the App reads from your photos and videos

When you use Swippet, the App reads the following properties from your media library to display information and power its features:

• Photo and video properties: Creation date, favorite status, media type (photo or video), resolution, duration (for videos), and media subtypes such as Live Photo, Portrait, Panorama, Screenshot, HDR, Burst, and RAW.
• Location data: GPS coordinates and altitude embedded in your photos’ metadata. This is used to display where a photo was taken and to generate your location statistics. Swippet reads location data from your existing photo metadata only — it does not access your device’s real-time GPS location.
• EXIF metadata: Camera make and model, lens model, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, focal length, exposure settings, and flash status. This powers the Swippet Super Detail view for photographers.
• File information: Original filename, file size, file format, and whether the file is stored locally or in iCloud. This is used for storage analysis and categorization.

All of this data is read directly from your photo library on your device. It is never transmitted to Swippet or any third party.

2.1 Photo and Video Metadata

When you grant the App access to your photo library, Swippet reads the following metadata from your media items through Apple’s PhotoKit and ImageIO frameworks:

• Creation date and time
• GPS location coordinates, altitude, and direction (if embedded in the photo’s metadata)
• Media type and subtype (selfie, Live Photo, portrait, panorama, burst, screenshot, RAW, slow-motion, time-lapse, HDR, etc.)
